Homeowner Insurance

Protect your biggest investment with homeowner's property insurance. A typical homeowner's insurance policy covers your home and other structures on your property for direct physical loss. The homeowner policy provides broad protection for your dwelling, personal property and your personal liability exposures subject to various exclusions, limitations, conditions, and restrictions. Homeowner insurance protects your home for a wide range of potential losses. If your home qualifies and you insure it for 100% of its value, for no extra charge you'll receive the full cost to repair or rebuild your home after a covered loss — even if the cost is more than the limits you buy. Ask for guaranteed or extended replacement cost. We urge you to read your policy carefully and call us if you have questions.

Types of Coverage

A standard homeowner's insurance policy protects you in several ways and includes four essential types of coverage.

1. Coverage for the structure of your home

Your homeowner’s policy protects you against loss caused by accidental or weather-related damage to your home or other structures on your property. This pays to repair or rebuild your home if it is damaged or destroyed by fire, hurricane, hail, lightning or other disaster listed in your policy. This part of your policy will not pay for damage caused by a flood, earthquake or routine wear and tear.

2. Coverage for your personal property

Your furniture, clothes, sports equipment and other personal items are covered if they are stolen or destroyed by fire, hurricane or other insured disaster. Expensive items like jewelry, furs and silverware are covered, but there are usually dollar limits if they are stolen. Generally, you are covered for between 1,000 to 2,000 for all of your jewelry and furs. You may want to consider adding an endorsement to your policy to protect more expensive items.

3. Liability Protection

Liability insurance pays for medical expenses or other claims against you if a guest is injured while on your property or in your home. It covers you against lawsuits for bodily injury or property damage that you or family members cause to other people. It also pays for damage caused by your pets. The liability portion of your policy pays for both the cost of defending you in court and any court awards. It covers up to the limit of your policy. You are also covered not just in your home, but anywhere.

4. Additional Living Expenses

This pays the additional costs of living away from home if you can't live there due to damage from a fire, storm or other insured disaster. It covers hotel bills, restaurant meals and other living expenses incurred while your home is being rebuilt. This coverage extends until the repairs are completed.

Worldwide Coverage for your belongings

With a homeowner policy, your belongings are covered while anywhere in the world. Add replacement cost, and you will be paid the total cost in today's market to repair or replace your belongings after a covered loss with no deduction for age or wear and tear. You can add scheduled personal property coverage for especially valuable items such as jewelry, watches, or silverware.

Updating Your Policy

Just as your home undergoes changes and improvements, so too should your homeowners policy be adjusted to meet these changes. Make sure that you update your insurance policy when anything on your house or property changes. Some things to consider: Additional Living Expense -Where would you live if your home burned? Liability Coverage – How much to cover property damage and bodily injuries to others? Medical Payments to Others – How much is covered? and Inflation –Will your policy cover a catastrophic loss?
